What is a MiCA licence?
MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets, EU Regulation 2023/1114) is a single rulebook for the crypto-asset market that applies directly across the European Union. For exchanges and other crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) it took effect on 30 December 2024.
A licensed CASP must meet strict requirements on own funds, governance, segregation of client assets, market abuse prevention and AML/KYC. One licence granted in the home member state allows services across the whole EEA (passporting).
